Core Academics: The Building Blocks of Our Children’s Future

In today’s rapidly changing world, there’s a lot of focus on new educational trends, but we must never lose sight of what matters most: core academics. Subjects like reading, math, and science are the foundational building blocks of a child’s education. These are the skills that will carry them through life, whether they pursue higher education or enter the workforce directly. As your representative on the El Dorado County Office of Education Board, I will ensure that our classrooms focus on these critical subjects and give every student the tools they need for a successful future.

The reality is that too many schools are shifting their focus away from these essential subjects. But we cannot allow this trend to continue. We need to ensure that every child in El Dorado County receives a strong academic foundation, and that begins with a renewed emphasis on core academics. Every student should graduate with proficiency in math, the ability to read and write at a high level, and a solid understanding of scientific principles that apply to the real world.

I will work to ensure that our schools offer rigorous instruction in these subjects and provide additional support for struggling students to ensure that no one falls behind. Furthermore, I will advocate for curriculum improvements that focus on real-world application, critical thinking, and problem-solving—skills that are essential in the modern workforce.
